Designer Fashion Tip of the Day, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

I have to admit, Paris Hilton is looking cute lately. I love her gold leaf earrings and matching metallic gold Chloe Pocket Paddington bag.

The Pocket Paddington is the latest incarnation in the series by Chloe. It's smaller but probably just as heavy as the original. Available from Browns for £840 / $1,599

For a funner version of the gold plate leaf earrings, check out Green Leaf Charm Earrings by Beloved by Sophie. Add a bit of color to your outfit with various beadings including Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. Available from leFashionista for $36.

Fashion Designer Tip of the Day, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Sarah Jessica Parker is a fashion icon in her own right. Here she is looking incredibly cool and casual in this grey summer dress. Unfortunately, summer is almost over and shops everywhere are slowly making the transition into fall fashion.

Yu Clothing has come out with a perfect summer-to-autumn dress in the similar style to Sarah Jessica's. This Shirred Tank Dress is available from leFashionista for $124. If it's getting chilly out, throw a cropped denim jacket over the top for the perfect autumn walk in the park dress, or show off the stylish cross over straps if it's sunny.

First impressions last so make sure you start the school year off in the right way with the perfect tote.

Posh university students, with a healthy budget, should opt for the Dior Cannage Tote. The giant D's can be off putting but it's a classic bag that will last you throughout your four years. Available from eLuxury for $995.

Edgier girls can go for this spacious Ada Studded Tote by Kooba. The antiqued brass studs give it a more casual feel that looks great paired with denim - jeans, jacket or skirt! Available from eLuxury for $645.

If you're always on the go and need something durable, Kahri's Boombox Tote is for you. The funky silver print boombox pattern is unique so you'll definitely stand out from the crowd. Available from leFashionista for $90.

Omiru Poll Results: Colorful Handbags are In!
Blog: Omiru: Style for All

A full 76% are all for these brightly colored bags, while only 5% consider them Out. The remaining 19%, however, believe they're On the Way Out.

Colorful handbags are a great way to punch up your outfit, especially in a season so enamored of neutrals. We can't think of a better way to add oomph to a fresh white summery dress, or even the standard jeans and tee combo. But make sure to pick a color you love…and one that makes a Statement.

Touché! Swashbuckling Styles for Fall

The skull scarf was THE Hollywood It girl accesory of the summer…if you managed to snag one (I coveted the Alexander McQueen ones…) then you can carry this look into fall with some chic swashbuckling styles. From flat fencing boots and naval trenches to skuls, skulls and more skulls, this is a fun trend to play with. If you find yourself going overboard with fashionable booty, don’t worry…pull them all together for a couture Halloween ensemble. Designer Fashion Addicts

Sexy Winter Boots, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Versace have come out with the sexiest boots this winter. Most over the knee boots are tacky and look, for a lack of a better word, rather promiscuous. But this pair of calf leather boots are sexy, elegant and chic all at the same time. It has a side zipper with a leather pull with silver metal tips wrapped around the ankle. Available from eLuxury for $1,570.

Lindsay Lohan and Maria Menuous look amazing in this voluminous bubble dress. Volume is still big this upcoming season so don't throw away those tulip skirts yet. Nipped at the waist for a feminine figure is the best way to do volume. No one wants to look like a giant ball.

If you're looking for a smart casual bubble dress, then look no further than this Satin Bubble Dress by Prospect 44 available from leFashionista for $150.

Emmy Awards 2006 Red Carpet Misses, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Jennifer Love Hewitt has a lovely curvaceous figure. But there's no need to dress up as a disco ball and unncessarily widen the hips in the process. Shame though as her makeup and hair are looking gorge. The clutch isn't bad either and wristlets are definitely in this upcoming season. Shame about the dress.

I was disappointed in Eva Longoria. She usually looks stunning in long flowing evening gowns. But for this award ceremony, she decdied to not look like the hot goddess she is and instead opted to look like a frumpy marshmallow. Not a good look. If you've got it, flaunt it!

However, you don't wanna flaunt it like a skank as Vanessa Minillo successfully did. There is figure hugging and then there is spilling over. Vanessa fit snugly into this electric blue number but the embroidery and the flamboyant colours did not elegant make.

Let's for a moment ignore the travesty of a dress by Vera Wang and focus on her clutch by Bottega Veneta. The minute I saw it in the BV lookbook, I knew I had to have it. Of course, there's no way I could actually afford it but a girl can dream hey?

They come in a variety of different designs. The most popular and the most affordable being the clutch in their signature weave and butterfly knot. But the most gorgeous of them all has to be the one Sandra is carrying - the Pepe Antique Sterling Silver clutch with Enameled Knot.

Katherine Heigl Best Dressed at the Emmy Awards 2006, Couture in the City

Katherine Heigl shone on the red carpet in this gorgeous Vintage Escada number. Her slicked back hair and natural chic makeup made her the best dressed in my book. She's also my fave on Grey's Anatomy but I promise I'm not being bias!

Purple Reigns Supreme at the Emmy Awards 2006, Couture in the City

All the fashion magazines say that the colours this season are red and grey. But if the Emmy's red carpet are anything to go by, its that purple is the colour to be wearing if you want to look lush and elegant.

I'm not the biggest fan of this Georges Chakra dress Cheryl Hines is wearing but it suits her and it suits her age.

Leah Remini opts for this stunning Versace number. Versace is known for its risque gowns that ooze sex so I have to say, I think someone else could have worn this much better.

Evangeline Lilly also goes with Versace. This dress is much more low-key and she dazzles in it.

My favourite of the bunch is this purple gown by John Galliano for Dior worn by Ellen Pompeo. She looks absolutely breathtaking.

Indie Designer Feature of the Month: Kahri, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

To start off our Indie Girl Designer Feature of the Month, DFA speaks to KahriAnne of Kahri. Hailing from smalltown Iowa, KahriAnne is quickly growing in the New York indie fashion scene. Kahri takes a step away from the same ol' same ol' you see at the malls and brings a fresh new perspective to fashion.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE

My style is hip, funky and rocker chic.

INSPIRATION

I'm inspired mostly from music, especially rock'n'roll. I'm especially into the 80's New Wave mixed in with my other favorite decade, the 1940's.

WHO DO YOU ASPIRE TO BE, DESIGNER WISE? WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR INFLUENCES

I don't want to be 'the next' anybody, I want to be the 'first me'. Although, I do like the attitude of designers Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui. I also like the design and styling of Sass and Bide.

DESIGN PROCESS

My design process is whatever happens happens. I don't draw every little thing I make beforehand. I usually start cutting and sewing and see where it takes me. Although, I always have a theme for each collection, so I use that as my inspiration and direction as I design.

MUST HAVE ITEM BY KREATIONS BY KAHRI

If I have to choose just one item that every girl should have from my new collection, it would be the Boombox Hoody because it's so versatile. You can dress it down with a tank underneath and some jeans, or dress it up with the Ruffle Mic Knickers, fishnets and heels.

THE DIAMOND LIFE photo
WRONG

One of Fall's most surprising trends is big, statement making necklaces and pendants. It's all about odd geometric shapes and baubles. Don't get too caught up in it though, a la Miss. Olsen. Some of the hottest looks in necklaces?
Resin horn pendant large view
HORNS Kenneth Jay Lane Horn Pendant, $65

Chains, turqoise and big pendants are also really hot right now, and the longer and more outrageous, the better. The best thing about this look? You don't have to worry about matching your necklace to your wardrobe, although, its best to wear them on a solid top or dress so that patterns don't compete with a particularly interesting piece.
